Get started with ArcGIS for Teams

You can use ArcGIS for Teams to bring maps and location intelligence into Microsoft Teams. With ArcGIS for Teams embedded in Microsoft Teams, you can quickly and seamlessly bring ArcGIS content into a chat or meeting.

Use ArcGIS for Teams to search for public ArcGIS Online content. When you are signed in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, you can search for your own or your organization's private content, including maps, scenes, layers, files, apps, stories, and so on.

There are two ways to install ArcGIS for Teams. From the Microsoft App store, you can install to a personal (private) scope, a team, a chat, or a meeting, or you can install ArcGIS for Teams directly from within a chat, meeting, or team.

You can also add ArcGIS for Teams ArcGIS Maps to the Microsoft Teams toolbar for quick access.

Install from the Microsoft App store

To install ArcGIS for Teams to a personal scope, team, chat, or meeting from the Microsoft App store, complete the following steps:

Before you can install ArcGIS for Teams, your IT administrator may need to manage apps in the Microsoft Teams admin center to make ArcGIS for Teams available to your organization.

  1. In the Microsoft Teams interface, click Apps Apps in the lower left corner of the navigation pane to access the app store.
  2. In the app store Search field, type ArcGIS Maps.

    ArcGIS Maps (ArcGIS for Teams) appears in the search results.

  3. Click ArcGIS Maps.

    The ArcGIS for Teams install window appears containing information about this app, including an overview and permissions settings.

    Add ArcGIS for Teams

    To install to a personal scope, click Add. When ArcGIS for Teams is installed, a new private chat opens, named ArcGIS for Teams. You can pin this private scope or add it to the Microsoft Teams toolbar.

    To install to a team, click the drop-down arrow on the Add button and click Add to a team Add to a team.

    To install to a chat, click the drop-down arrow on the Add button and click Add to a chat Add to a chat.

    Add ArcGIS for Teams to a meeting

    To install to a meeting, click the drop-down arrow on the Add button and click Add to a meeting Add to a meeting.

    1. For a team, chat, or meeting installation, at the browser prompt, browse to and select the team channel, chat conversation, or meeting to which you are adding ArcGIS for Teams and click Set up.

      ArcGIS for Teams is installed in the selected location.

      Tip:

      Verify that you have permission to add ArcGIS for Teams to the selected team, chat, or meeting.

      Click Save to save this installation.

    2. To pin the ArcGIS for Teams private scope installation to the top of your chat list, right-click the More options button More added apps next to ArcGIS for Teams in the chat list and click Pin Pin an item.

      The pinned chat moves to the top of your chat list.

Install directly from a chat, meeting, or team

To install ArcGIS for Teams directly from a chat, meeting, or team channel, complete the following steps:

Before you can install ArcGIS for Teams, your IT administrator may need to manage apps in the Microsoft Teams admin center to make ArcGIS for Teams available to your organization.

Tip:

Always verify that you have permission to add ArcGIS for Teams to the selected team, chat, or meeting.

  1. In a Microsoft Teams chat, meeting, or team channel, click the add button add a tab in the top navigation.

    The Add a tab window appears.

  2. In the Search field, type ArcGIS Maps.

    ArcGIS Maps (ArcGIS for Teams) appears in the search results.

  3. Click ArcGIS Maps.

    The ArcGIS for Teams window appears.

  4. Click Save.

    ArcGIS for Teams is added to the chat, meeting, or team.

Add ArcGIS for Teams to the Microsoft Teams toolbar

To add the ArcGIS Maps button ArcGIS Maps to the Microsoft Teams toolbar, complete the following steps:

  1. In Microsoft Teams, click Chat in the left navigation pane.
  2. In the bottom navigation pane, click the More options button More added apps.
  3. In the Search field, type ArcGIS Maps.

    ArcGIS Maps (ArcGIS for Teams) appears in the search results.

  4. Right-click ArcGIS Maps and click Pin Pin an item.
  5. The ArcGIS Maps button ArcGIS Maps is added to the Microsoft Teams toolbar.
Tip:

You may need to unpin some of the other apps on the toolbar to view ArcGIS Maps in the Microsoft Teams toolbar.

Sign in to ArcGIS

After installing ArcGIS for Teams, you can use the app to searchfor public ArcGIS content. Use ArcGIS for Teams anonymously or sign in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account to access content and information from your organization.

To sign in to your ArcGIS account, click Sign in at the welcome message prompt. You can also sign in or out in the search window at any time.

Search for items

Use the search tool to search ArcGIS content. Type keywords or phrases to @ArcGIS Maps in the chat message field to find relevant maps, scenes, files, layers, and apps.

View items

Open maps, scenes, files, layers, and compatible apps on the Viewer tab to view and edit them in Microsoft Teams. You can also use the Open in browser option.

Note:

To view content in ArcGIS for Teams, Disable GPU hardware acceleration must be turned off in the Microsoft Teams settings.

Share items

Use @mentions to quickly find and share ArcGIS content in chats and channels. Type @ArcGIS Maps in the message field or search box to search for the content you want to share and send it in a message.
