Add infographics cards

Infographics cards are visualizations that provide contextual information about a map. ArcGIS Maps for SharePoint includes a selection of demographics categories, including population, age distribution, and income levels, among others. Each demographic appears as a card next to the map.

Infographics cards are interactive; their content updates depending on what you're doing. If you select one or more locations on the map, the cards show demographic information for an area around each selected location. If no locations are selected, the cards display demographic information for the entire visible area of the map. The cards are also fully configurable; different properties are available depending on the demographic category chosen.

Add an infographics card to the map

To add an infographics card to the map, do the following:

1. Put the map in edit mode.
2. From the map tools, click Analysis .

   The analysis tools appear. Infographics card is selected by default, showing available data collections. Categories for the United States are listed by default. Other variables and categories are available, depending on the country selected.

3. Select the variables to add as an infographics card:
   1. Use the drop-down menu to select the country whose data collections you want to see.
   2. Type keywords for specific variables into the search field and press Enter.
   3. Choose a data collection to see the variables it contains.
   4. Check the check boxes for the variables to add them as infographics cards.

      Note:

      When a layer is styled using Country data, values that display on infographics cards are approximate based on generalization of features.

   When you select a variable, an infographics card appears on the map with default settings. When you select multiple demographic variables, related variables are grouped on a single card. For example, if you choose four variables from the 2016 Age: 1 Year Increments (Esri) category, all four appear on the same card.

   Cards are arranged vertically in the order in which you add them. Drag the cards up or down to rearrange them.

4. Click the Close button on a card to remove the card from the map.
5. When you finish adding cards, click Close to close the Analysis pane or click the Settings button to change the default settings for the infographics cards.

Configure infographics cards

When no features are selected on the map, infographics cards display information for the current visible area of the map. When you select one or more features on the map, the details on the card update to show information for a 20-mile area surrounding the selected feature. This is the default setting; you can change it to change the study area or set the area to a drive-time distance or a driving distance.

To change the default infographics card settings, do the following:

1. In the Analysis pane select the Infographics card tool , and click the Settings button.

   The Settings pane appears.

2. From the Sample area for points drop-down menu, choose one of the following to define the demographics study area:
   • Radius—Returns information from within a specified radius around the features on the map, defined in miles or kilometers.
   • Driving Time or Driving Distance—Returns information from within a specified number of minutes or hours of driving time from the features on the map or a specified driving distance in miles or kilometers from the features on the map.
   • Trucking Time or Trucking Distance—Returns information from within a specified number of minutes or hours of trucking time from the features on the map or a specified trucking distance in miles or kilometers from the features on the map.
   • Walking Time or Walking Distance—Returns information from within a specified number of minutes or hours of walking time from the features on the map or a specified walking distance in miles or kilometers from the features on the map.
   • Rural Driving Time or Rural Driving Distance—Returns information from within a specified number of minutes or hours of rural driving time from the features on the map or a specified rural driving distance in miles or kilometers from the features on the map.
3. In the Sample distance for points section, do one of the following:

   • To specify a radius distance, type a value in the text box and choose the unit of measurement: miles or kilometers. The maximum radius is 300 miles (482 kilometers). When you select a feature on the map, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the areas within the specified radius around the selected feature. For example, if you choose a radius of 10 miles and click a point representing City Hall, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the area within 10 miles of City Hall. Using this feature, you can select up to 100 features at a time.

   • To specify a driving time, trucking time, walking time, or rural driving time, type a value in the text box and choose the unit of measurement: minutes or hours. You can specify up to 30 minutes or 0.5 hours. When you select a feature on the map, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the areas within the specified time. For example, if you specify a drive time of 10 minutes and click a point representing City Hall, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the area within 10 driving minutes of City Hall. Using this feature, you can select up to 10 features at a time.

   • To specify a driving distance, trucking distance, walking distance, or rural driving distance, type a value in the text box and choose the unit of measurement: miles or kilometers. The maximum distance is 300 miles (482 kilometers). When you select a feature on the map, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the areas within the specified distance around the selected feature. For example, if you choose a drive distance of 10 miles and click a point representing City Hall, the infographics cards update to show the demographic information for the area within 10 miles of City Hall. Using this feature, you can select up to 10 features at a time.

4. When you finish configuring the infographics cards, click the Close button to close the Analysis pane and view the map.

Interact with infographics cards

Infographics cards update when you select features on the map. If no features are selected, the cards show demographic information for the current visible area on the map. If you zoom or pan the map, the cards update to reflect the new map area.

To interact with infographics cards, do any of the following:

• Zoom in or out to show demographic information for the current map extent.
• Select a feature to show demographic information for a specified area around the feature.
• Select multiple features to show demographic information for a combined area surrounding the selection.
• Click one or more polygons to show demographic information for the study area defined by the polygons.
• By default, infographics cards are shown using whole numbers. Click Show percentage to view the information in a bar chart. Click Show number to return to whole number display.
• Drag the cards up or down to rearrange them.
• Use the mouse wheel button or keyboard Up and Down arrows to scroll through the infographics cards.
• Click Close on an infographics card to delete it..
