Install ArcGIS for SharePoint

You must be a SharePoint site administrator to install the add-in. There are many ways a SharePoint organization can be administered, and your installation experience may differ slightly from the procedures outlined here. Contact your SharePoint administrator for details about your organization, or refer to the Microsoft SharePoint documentation.

ArcGIS for SharePoint contains the new ArcGIS add-in, completely redesigned and developed to take advantage of the modern pages in SharePoint. Some of the functionality you're accustomed to using in ArcGIS Maps will be available with ArcGIS in upcoming releases. Other components, including the ArcGIS Maps Locate workflow and ArcGIS Search, are still available in the SharePoint classic experience.

Install on a SharePoint site

Note:

SharePoint provides two deployment scopes for SharePoint add-ins:

  • Web scope—Install the add-in on a per-site basis.
  • Tenant scope—Install multiple add-ins in batch mode.

ArcGIS for SharePoint for the Modern environment can only be installed using the tenant deployment scope. For more information about deployment scopes, see Tenancies and deployment scopes for SharePoint Add-ins.

Add the ArcGIS for SharePoint app to a Teams channel

When you create a team in Microsoft Teams, a site collection is created in SharePoint with the same name as the team. Each channel created for that team becomes a folder in SharePoint that is part of its document library.

When you add the ArcGIS for SharePoint app to a Teams channel, users of the channel can seamlessly use ArcGIS mapping, geotagging, and geosearching capabilities in both Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.

To add the ArcGIS for SharePoint app to a team for use in Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Microsoft Teams app, create a team and configure its settings.
  2. Add the ArcGIS for SharePoint app:
    1. From Microsoft Teams, click the add button to add a new tab to the team's folder.

The Add a tab pane appears, showing all available applications you can add to the channel.

    2. Click ArcGIS for SharePoint from the available applications.

The ArcGIS interface appears, and ArcGIS for SharePoint becomes one of the menu options for the channel.

You are prompted to sign in to your ArcGIS account.

    Note:

If you sign in to your ArcGIS account, check Keep me signed in to remain signed in to your ArcGIS account when switching between tabs. Otherwise, you are prompted to sign in to ArcGIS on each tab in the channel.

From the ArcGIS for SharePoint navigation menu, you can manage the map controls while the map is in edit mode.

You can now perform all standard mapping, geotagging, and geosearching capabilities that are available in ArcGIS for SharePoint in Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.

Caution:

Dynamic data is available only to users of Microsoft SharePoint. It is not available in Microsoft Teams.
