Modifying the appearance of district plans

You can customize the appearance of district plans to your preferences. You can modify the display of district lines, locks, and names, including shortening names and showing the population for each district.

  1. Click the View tab.
  2. Modify the district appearance by enabling or disabling the following options:
    • Use Unassigned Color—This option allows you to display all districts using the Unassigned color.
    • Display Lines—By default, the Display Lines option is not checked, which shows each district filled according to the defined symbology color. See Changing district symbology. When the Display Lines option is checked, only the district boundaries are shown on the map.
    • Fill Districts—By default, the Fill Districts option is checked. This allows you to see all districts on the plan will a filled color.
    • Display Locks—By default, the Display Locks option is checked. This allows you to see any locks that are in your district plan.
      Tip:

      When locks are visible, you can see both district locks and geography-specific locks. In the example image below, geography locks are outlined in a darker gray hatch pattern.

    • Display Names—By default, the Display Names option is checked. This allows you to see the labels for each district assignment in your district plan.
      Note:

      When labeling is enabled on the map, the some labels may not be visible based on the current map zoom level.

    • Shorten Names—Abbreviates the district labeling. For example, District 1 may be shortened to display as D1.

    • Show District Field—Displays the selected demographic field label on the map. The district field is defined on the Modify Districts dialog box.
