Analysis and geoprocessing
General geoprocessing
- You can add your favorite tools to the My Favorites section of the Geoprocessing pane Favorites tab by right-clicking any tool and selecting Add To My Favorites. These tools will appear in the section regardless of which project you have open.
- You can create toolboxes in a new format called an ArcGIS Toolbox, which is stored using the .atbx file extension. This new toolbox format represents the next generation of geoprocessing toolbox, tool, script, and model storage, and will be the de facto format of toolboxes starting in the ArcGIS Pro 3.0 release. The new toolbox format provides better cross-release compatibility and persistence, improved performance and scalability, and less possibility of file corruption due to binary storage, as the new format is JSON-based with an open specification. You can create toolsets, add new model and script tools, change properties, and copy and paste tools from legacy toolboxes (.tbx) into the new toolbox format using the Catalog pane.
- The Geoprocessing options dialog box includes a new option to open the messages window automatically after running a tool.
Geoprocessing tools
- Conversion toolbox:
New tools:
- There are two new geoprocessing tools to convert between features and graphics: Features To Graphics and Graphics To Features. See An overview of the Graphics toolset to learn more.
- Data Management toolbox:
Enhanced tools:
- The Check Geometry and Repair Geometry tools now support feature classes stored in an enterprise database, OGC GeoPackage, or SQLite database.
- Defense toolbox:
New tools:
- Letter Features - Adds a sequential letter to a new or existing field of a set of input features.
- Letter Intersections - Identifies intersections in a line feature class and adds sequential letters to an output set of point features.
- Number Features by Sector - Adds a sequential number to a new or existing field of a set of input features based on a geographic grouping to which the features belong.
Enhanced tools:
- Number Features—Four new parameters, Starting With, Increment By, Center Point, and Add Distance and Bearing to Center, have been added. The Spatial Sort Method parameter has three new options: Center, Spiral right, and Sprial left.
- Intelligence toolbox:
New tools:
- Select Movement Tracks selects movement tracks that intersect an area of interest.
- Find Frequented Locations identifies locations where multiple unique movement tracks have dwelled for a defined time period.
Enhanced tools:
- Find Meeting Locations has new Minimum Meeting Duration and Maximum Meeting Duration filters.
3D Analysis
- You can now investigate your data interactively using the 3D Exploratory Analysis tools.
Editing
- Snapping settings are now available on the Editor Settings dialog box.
- Table templates can be filtered and searched in the Create Features pane.
- In Project Options for editing, you can turn off the Move tool from being automatically activated when you paste features from the clipboard.
Imagery and raster
General
- Raster symbology can now render your elevation data as shaded relief. This will display a color 3D representation of the elevation, which is created by merging the elevation and hillshade parameters.
- The Classify symbology now uses a more intuitive rule set to determine the default number of decimal places to use when labeling the classes.
Visualization
General
- You can now put stand-alone tables into group layers in a map or scene.
- You can now save stand-alone tables as a layer file (*.lyrx).
Maps and scenes
- You can now control the illumination and apply visual effects on a map or scene.
- You can now apply camera effects on a scene.
- A Link Cursors control has been added to display the cursor in all views when drawing or measuring features.
Layouts
- Transparency can now be applied to pictures. Once a picture has been added, set the Transparency value on the Format ribbon.
- You can use the new Fit to Margins buttons to make selected elements the same size, width, or height as the printer margins on the page.
- Grid labels can be set parallel to the grid edges, and grid tricks can be set perpendicular to grid edges, allowing further customization to grids.
Charts
- Display multiseries charts (bar charts, line charts, and scatterplots) as a grid of mini-charts to facilitate comparison of trends and patterns between each series.
- Split scatterplots by a categorical field and display each series with a distinct color.
- Export charts with user-specified width and height.
Projects
General
- Catalog browsing options allow you to set the following preferences:
- Display folder connections as folder names or full paths.
