A basemap provides a background, or visual context, for the data in a map. For example, a basemap showing streets can provide context for address data. ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 includes a selection of basemaps, including aerial imagery, terrain, streets, and topographic data.
When you first add an ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 map, the default basemap is determined by your ArcGIS administrator. You can change the basemap if this has been enabled by your ArcGIS administrator; however, a basemap is required for all maps and cannot be removed. Unlike other layers, you cannot change a basemap's style.
