After you have configured Esri Maps and spatially enabled the objects within your organization, it is required that you configure data templates to make it easier to use Esri Maps for Salesforce.
Salesforce is a robust system with numerous fields that can contain object location information. To make mapping easier, administrators define the fields containing location information about Salesforce objects. For example, location information for account objects might be in the billing latitude and billing longitude fields. To make these fields available to users, configure Esri Maps to use them as a default option when mapping accounts.
To configure object location types, perform the following steps.
Sign in to Salesforce.
From the Salesforce home page, click Setup. Click Installed Packages. Click Configure next to the Esri Maps for Salesforce package. Click Data Templates and click New.
Enter a data template name. For example, if you want to set up a definition for accounts using billing address coordinates, you might name it Accounts - Billing.
Select the primary object type you want to configure.
Click Change to specify which fields contain the location information for the object.
In the Location Configuration dialog box, choose how the location is represented in your data. Click Next.
Choose the fields that contain the location information for your records. If you spatially enabled your records, you'll want to use the fields you used to store your geocoded addresses. Common options are billing latitude, billing longitude or shipping latitude, and shipping longitude. Click Finish.
Choose the fields that will be available to the user mapping this object. You can select all fields or a subset most useful to your organization. Move them from the Available Fields area to the Selected Fields area by using the Add arrow. Click Save.
The new object location type appears when data is added to a map. To see the new data templates, open a new map in the Map Gallery. Click Add Data. Click from Salesforce. Highlight an object type from the list and click Next. Choose a view from the list and click Next. The object location type added appears in the list. Click it and then click Add data to map. Your records appear on the map.
