Data connections are one of the ways to access data in Insights. Database connections and SharePoint connections can be shared to allow you to collaborate with colleagues and share data with other Insights users.
Note:
OneDrive accounts are specific to each individual user. Therefore, OneDrive connections cannot be shared.
Relational database connections
Note:
Database connections are available in Insights in ArcGIS Enterprise and Insights desktop. Database connections can only be shared in Insights in ArcGIS Enterprise.
Database connections cannot be shared through a distributed collaboration. A new connection to the database must be made in each portal to access data.
A relational database connection allows you to view, query, and analyze the contents of databases in Insights. A database connection can be shared so that the tables it stores are available to other members of your organization.
A relational database connection item is created automatically when a database connection is created. You can change the status of the relational database connection item using the Share button 
for the item on the home page.

SharePoint connections
Note:
SharePoint connections are available in Insights in ArcGIS Online and Insights in ArcGIS Enterprise.
A SharePoint connection allows you to access shared content from your Microsoft SharePoint account, including shapefiles, Excel workbooks, and SharePoint files (subsites, document libraries, and lists).
A SharePoint connection item is created automatically when a SharePoint connection is created. You can change the status of the SharePoint connection item using the Share button for the item on the home page.
