Work with a web map

An ArcGIS GeoPlanner project contains a web map that is maintained in your ArcGIS organization. Many of the generic web map settings are inherited by GeoPlanner. If you make changes to your web map in your ArcGIS organization, those changes are reflected in GeoPlanner projects that include that web map. You can also perform some basic actions and collaborate on the GeoPlanner project web map.

Search the web map

You can search the web map for specific locations by completing the following steps:

1. Open or create a GeoPlanner project.
2. Click the Place Finder button on the map.
3. Type an address or the name of a place.

   As you type, locations with names that contain the text you type appear in a list.

4. Choose the location from the list or click the Search button .

   The map zooms to the specified location and a pop-up appears with an option to import it into your active scenario.

Measure land features

You can measure area sizes and distances or determine longitude and latitude coordinates in a web map using the Measure tool. The sections below outline how to perform measurements in a project.

Measure areas

Complete the following steps to measure area sizes:

1. Click the Measure button on the map.

   The Measure tool appears.

2. Click the Area button .
3. Click the drop-down arrow and choose a unit of measurement.
4. Draw a polygon on the map.
5. Double-click the last vertex to close the polygon.

   The measurement appears in the Measurement Result section of the Measure tool.

Measure distances

Complete the following steps to measure distances:

1. Click the Measure button on the map.

   The Measure tool appears.

2. Click the Distance button .
3. Click the drop-down arrow and choose a unit of measurement.
4. Click the point on the map where you want to start measuring.
5. Draw the path you want to measure.

   The distance appears in the Measurement Result section of the Measure tool as you plot points along a path.

6. Double-click when you plot the end point to stop measuring.

Determine location coordinates

Complete the following steps to determine the coordinates for a location on the map:

1. Click the Measure button on the map.

   The Measure tool appears.

2. Click the Location button .
3. Click the drop-down arrow and choose a unit of measurement.
4. Click a location on the map for which you want to view coordinates.

   The coordinates of the location appear in the Measurement Result section of the Measure tool.

Tip:

The coordinates of your pointer also appear in the Measurement Result section of the Measure tool as you move it on the map.

Refresh the web map

You can refresh your web map without reloading the project. This allows you to bring the latest updates to your web map into your project. Complete the following steps to refresh your web map:

1. Open or create a GeoPlanner project.
2. Click the Refresh Map button on the map.

   The web map associated with your project is updated and reflects the latest changes.

Add a bookmark

A bookmark is a navigation shortcut to a position on a map with a specified extent to which you can return. You can create bookmarks by saving specific views or extents of your web map as a bookmark. When you open the bookmark, the map zooms to the extent that was visible when you saved the bookmark.

Complete the following steps to create a bookmark:

1. Open or create a GeoPlanner project.
2. Click the Extent button .
3. Choose the Add Bookmark option.
4. Type a name for the bookmark and press Enter.

   The bookmark is created.

Tip:

You can delete or edit bookmarks in the list that appears when you click the Extent button on the map. You can also rearrange the order in which bookmarks appear in the list by dragging them.
