ArcGIS GeoBIM uses authorized Autodesk Platform Services (APIs) to add issues to Autodesk BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud. Some attributes of the Issues layer cannot be modified by changing values in ArcGIS. The predefined configuration in Field Maps Designer created by ArcGIS GeoBIM is designed to control the values of these attributes to ensure they are added correctly to the Autodesk issue management workflow. It is recommend that you follow the guidelines below to ensure a successful ArcGIS Field Maps experience with Autodesk issues.
Documents layer restrictions
Do not make any modifications to the existing attributes of the Documents layer. Changes to these attributes can lead to data integrity problems or cause ArcGIS GeoBIM to function incorrectly. Do not modify the relationship between Documents and Issues. Depending on your application needs, you may make these changes:
- Modify the geometry of a record in the Documents layer for display purposes. For example, a document that has an incorrect location may be moved and resized.
Note:
Modifications to the geometry will be replaced if the document is modified in Autodesk BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud and the synchronization toolis run.
- Modify the style of Documents layer.
- Add new attributes to documents.
Modify the Documents layer style
The default symbology for documents (also project boundaries) uses the single symbol definition. You can change the style as needed, but avoid creating a definition query to filter the data. If a definition query is required for some apps, set it in the web map, not the feature service.
Issues layer and New ArcGIS Field Maps Issues layer
To distinguish between existing Autodesk issues and new issues created in the field, two layers are created in ArcGIS Field Maps. The Issues layer has a filter applied to show only issues that have been created in Autodesk. The New ArcGIS Field Maps Issues layer has a filter applied to show only issues that have not yet been created in Autodesk. The following filters should not be modified:
- Do not modify the filter applied to the Issues layer in ArcGIS Field Maps because it ensures that field users cannot modify existing Autodesk issues.
- Do not modify the filter applied to the New ArcGIS Field Maps Issues layer. This filter permits users to create, modify, and delete new issues prior to synchronization with Autodesk.
Note:
Deletions or modifications to existing Autodesk issues will be ignored.
Issues layer restrictions
Issues have defined workflows in the Autodesk project lifecycle. With few exceptions, these fields cannot be modified as plain text. The following are the issue layer restrictions:
- Do not remove attributes from the Issues layer.
- Do not modify the type, length, default value, uniqueness, or editable properties of any attribute in the Issues layer.
- Do not add, remove, or modify calculated fields.
- Do not modify the relationship defined between Issues and Documents.
Modify Issue layer values
You cannot update issues once they have been created in the Autodesk system. To change issues after they are created, use Autodesk BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Before issues are created in Autodesk BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud, only attributes specifically noted below can be modified.
Attribute | Modifiable | Comment |
---|---|---|
Description | Yes | |
Due Date | Yes | |
Location Description | Yes | |
Title | Yes | |
Autodesk Type | Yes | This field concatenates the Type and Sub-Type values from Autodesk. The domain must not be modified. Values chosen from the predefined domain may be selected by the user. |
Assigned To | No | The Autodesk user assigned the issue. Plain text usernames cannot be used to modify this attribute. |
Company | No | The company name cannot be modified by changing the plain text value. |
Created At | No | This field is defined by Autodesk at issue creation time. |
CreationDate | No | This field is defined by Autodesk at issue creation time. |
Creator | No | The ArcGIS user that created the issue. |
EditDate | No | This is an internal ArcGIS timestamp. |
Editor | No | The ArcGIS user that modified the issue. |
GlobalID | No | This is an internal ArcGIS field. |
ID | No | This is an internal ID. |
Issue GUID | No | This is an internal globally unique identifier used by Autodesk. It cannot be modified. For new issues created with ArcGIS Field Maps, this value must be empty. Setting this value to empty for an existing issue will cause duplication of issues. |
Issues # | No | This number is assigned by Autodesk and cannot be modified. |
Item ID | No | This is an internal ID. |
Linked Document | No | This is the name of the linked document. It is determined by Autodesk. |
Location | No | The location is internal to Autodesk. |
OBJECTID | No | This is an internal ArcGIS field. |
Owner | No | The Autodesk user responsible for the issue. Plain text usernames cannot be used to modify this attribute. |
Project ID | No | This is an internal identifier of the Autodesk project for this issue. |
Project Name | No | The project name cannot be modified. |
Root Cause | No | The root cause cannot be modified. |
Status | No | Only two status values are permitted for new issues: Draft and Open. |
Sub-Type | No | Types and Sub-Types cannot be modified by changing this field. |
Synced At | No | This is an internal timestamp used for synchronization. |
Type | No | Types and Sub-Types cannot be modified by changing this field. |
Updated At | No | This is an internal timestamp used for synchronization. |
x | No | This value is based on the ArcGIS geometry. |
y | No | This value is based on the ArcGIS geometry. |
Note:
You may modify the issues layer style if you follow the guidelines identified in this document.
Do not activate multiple editing in the App settings. The form design is ignored when editing multiple features, as logged as a known issue in ArcGIS Field Maps.
You can edit the Field Maps Designer configuration of the project only if you are the owner of the project or you have an administrator role in your organization. Without those permissions, you are warned with this message: Unable to open map. You do not have permission to access the map requested if you click Open in Field Maps Designer on the Maps page in ArcGIS GeoBIM.
