Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS)

Esri uses crime risk data provided by Applied Geographic Solutions, Inc. (AGS) to create a Crime Indexes advanced demographics dataset for the United States.

Applied Geographic Solutions, Inc. (AGS) is a leading supplier of demographic and marketing databases. The Crime Indexes dataset provides insight about the relative risk of specific crime types in the United States. The dataset is not a database of actual crimes, but can be used to perform risk analysis of specific crime types for a region compared to the United States as a whole. Crime indexes include broad categories of personal and property crime.

Crime indexes data is available for:

  • 2024A (in 2020 Census geography).
  • 2023B (in 2020 Census geography).
  • 2023A (in 2020 Census geography).

Total Crime Index

The Total Crime Index provides an assessment of the relative risk of seven major crime types in the geographic area for the current year: assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, and robbery. It is modeled using data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau and AGS.

Personal Crime Index

The Personal Crime Index provides an assessment of four major crime types in the geographic area for the current year: murder, rape, robbery, and assault. It is modeled using data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau and AGS.

Property Crime Index

The Property Crime Index provides an assessment of the relative risk of three major crime types in the in the geographic area for the current year: burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. It is modeled using data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau and AGS.
