Share feature layers

When images are added to a project, Drone2Map loads the geolocation information from metadata embedded in the images or from an external file and creates an Images layer and Flight Lines layer. Every new project will also contain a Control layer for storing any ground control points that you may import. The Feature Layer tool allows you to share these layers to your sharing portal without having to run any processing on the images. If you choose to process your images before sharing, additional layers can become enabled for sharing as feature layers.

Share items

You have the following options for sharing items, depending on your sharing privileges:

  • Your organization—Sharing with your organization means only members of your organization have access to your item.
  • Groups to which you belong—If you are a member of a group, you can share your item with that group. Sharing with specific groups restricts access to a smaller, more focused set of people.
  • Everyone—Sharing with everyone makes your item public; anybody who has access to the portal website or ArcGIS Online, including anonymous users, can find and use your item, and group owners can include it in their group content.
  • Everyone, your organization, and groups to which you belong—You can share your item with a larger audience (for example, everyone and your organization) and also share it with a specific group. This allows you to categorize your item as especially relevant to a particular group while still making it available to others in your organization.

Publish features

To publish features as feature layers, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Share tab, in the Share As group, click Feature Layer Feature Layer.
  2. Check the layers you want to share. These can include the following:
    • Flight data
    • Map Notes
    • Measurements
    • Control
    • Contours
    • Correction Feature
    • Project Area
    • Waterbody
  3. If adding to a web catalog, check the Add portal item to web catalog check box.

A web catalog must exist for the project before layers can be added to it. A new web catalog can be created by clicking the Create new web catalog button Browse. For more information on working with catalog datasets, see Use catalog datasets.

  4. Click the Properties tab to set the following properties:

Properties can only be set on the Flight Data, Map Notes, and Control layers.

    • Export Image Links—Export image links when sharing control. The image must exist on disk for the image link to be imported back into a project.
    • Attach GCP Photos—If ground control points have photo attachments, they will be retained when sharing.
    • Attach Images to Flight Points—Project flight images will be attached to the corresponding Image Center point feature when sharing.
    • Max record count—The number of records that can be returned by a user query. A large number may result in slower performance. The default value is 2,000.
    • Use Product Spatial Reference—Publishes the layer in the spatial reference of the source data. Unchecking this value will publish the layer in Web Mercator.
    • Preserve Item—A service is created from an uploaded item containing the source sharing data. This item can be safely deleted after the service is published. By default, the item is deleted after the service is published.
  5. Click the Details tab to go back and give your feature layers a Title.
  6. Optionally, choose a Folder to share your features, provide a Description, and update the Tags.
  7. Check the appropriate groups for sharing your items.
  8. Click Share.
  9. A feature layer is created in your sharing portal. Layers are shared as feature layers and will retain their symbology.
