Draw a polygonal street

Using the Street Creation tools Polygonal Street Creation tool, you can draw polygonal streets and snap to existing streets, shapes, or guides. When you create streets and enclose an area, blocks are created automatically.

You can set street options in the Tool Options window Tool options.

Draw a street

To draw a polygonal street, complete the following steps:

  1. To draw a polygonal street, click the Polygonal Street Creation tool Polygonal Street Creation tool(or press G) to open the Tool Options window Tool options.

    You can also click Graph > Polygonal Street Creation in the main menu.

  2. Click to create the first vertex and click again to place additional vertices.
  3. To finish the street, double-click or press Enter.

    The streets automatically snap to street segments and nodes and snap to shape vertices and edges. Additionally, you can snap to guides and align segments parallel and perpendicular to them.

  4. Press Shift to temporarily disable snapping.
  5. Double-click a street segment to add a vertex at that place.

Tool options

The Polygonal Street Creation tool options Tool options include the following:

Segment Length (m)

The length of the current street segment in meters.

  • Enter a value before or while drawing to lock the length. Press Enter to apply the value.
  • Lock and unlock the length by clicking either the lock Lock length or the unlock button Unlock length.

Snapping

Turn snapping options on and off in the scene. Press Shift to temporarily disable snapping. See Snapping.

Street Configuration

Street configuration to apply to the street. See Work with street configurations.

Node Rule File

Node rule file to be assigned to the street.

Re-use settings from neighbors

If enabled, settings are copied from neighbor streets, if available. If an existing street is extended, settings are typically copied from that segment.

Apply rule-based model generation

If enabled, model generation is automatically triggered.

Align terrain

Align the street with the terrain.

Intersect Segments

Create a new node at the intersection of segments.
