Visibility analysis tools highlight surfaces and structures that are visible or hidden from a user-defined observer position.
You can use the following visibility analysis tools and workflows:
Viewshed Creation | Calculates a viewshed that determines the visibility from a camera-like observer for a limited field of view. |
View Dome Creation | Calculates a view dome that has the same functionality as the Viewshed Creation tool but provides a 360° field of view. |
View Corridor Creation | Creates a protected view corridor where any geometry visible in the corridor is highlighted. |
Analyze visibility by layer | Analyze visibility by layer in a scene. |
Use analysis layers | Use analysis layers in a scene. |
By using the tools, you can create analysis objects that can be saved in your CityEngine scene. The visibility analysis tools snap to buildings and terrains to facilitate the positioning of the observer point and the point of interest.
Visibility analysis considerations
- Visibility tools are represented as scene objects that belong to an Analysis Layer in the Scene Editor window.
- Analysis tools are persistent and therefore are saved with the scene.
- In case the geometry in the scene or the analysis tool itself is edited, the recalculation is triggered automatically for all visibility objects.
- The visual representation in the Viewport window provides handles to edit the position of the observer as well as view direction and field of view.
- You can edit the analysis objects with the transform tools.
- The Inspector window provides a perspective view rendered from the observer position.
- The Visibility settings tool
allows you to show or hide analysis objects. - You cannot publish or export analysis layers outside of a CityEngine scene.
