ArcGIS License Manager for ArcGIS CityEngine quick start guide

The ArcGIS License Manager provides an on-premise license server for the Concurrent Use licensing type of ArcGIS CityEngine. CityEngine 2023.0 must be used with ArcGIS License Manager 2022.1. See the instructions below to install and authorize ArcGIS License Manager 2022.1.

Get started

Before installing ArcGIS License Manager, note the following:

Install ArcGIS License Manager

To install ArcGIS License Manager, do the following:

  1. Sign in as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Go to My Esri and download ArcGIS License Manager under Downloads > All Products and Versions.
  3. Run the ArcGIS License Manager Setup wizard.
  4. Determine where you want ArcGIS License Manager installed.
    • For Windows, the default installation location for ArcGIS License Manager is C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\LicenseManager.
    • For UNIX and Linux, the default installation location is $HOME/arcgis/licensemanager.
  5. Click Finish to complete the setup.

Obtain CityEngine software authorization numbers

Once ArcGIS License Manager is installed, you can obtain the authorization numbers by doing the following:

  1. Sign in as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Go to My Esri and click Licensing > Start Licensing.
  3. Click Other Products.
  4. Under Product, click ArcGIS CityEngine.
  5. Select the version under Version.
  6. Configure the remaining settings and click Next.

The authorization numbers are listed by date under Authorization Number. For those outside the United States, contact your local distributor for information about your authorization numbers.

Authorize licenses

After you've obtained your authorization numbers, use ArcGIS License Server Administrator to authorize the license.

  1. Open ArcGIS License Server Administrator.
  2. Click Authorization in the table of contents.
  3. Under Version, click CE 2012-2023 from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Authorize Now to start the Software Authorization Wizard.
  5. Follow the instructions in the software authorization wizard to complete the authorization process.
  6. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Concurrent Use license

To use CityEngine 2023.0 with the Concurrent Use license type, you must have ArcGIS License Manager 2022.1 installed and authorized with a CityEngine 2012-2023 Concurrent Use license.

Once ArcGIS License Manager is installed, you can supply the license manager information to those users installing CityEngine. They can browse to this network license manager when prompted for the license manager machine after their CityEngine installation.

Note:

On slow networks, CityEngine concurrent-use products may fail to obtain a license from the license manager. See this Esri Technical Support article for more information.
