ESRI.lib

ESRI.lib is a CityEngine project that contains a library full of useful resources, such as CGA rules and assets. They help you get started with your projects. For example, you can use building and vegetation rules to apply to your shapes.

ESRI.lib is automatically installed in your CityEngine workspace. However, you can download additional content online to complement the provided rules and use directly in your scenes. These 3D assets are called Webstyles and, for the most part, are available across the Esri platform.

Manage ESRI.lib

To download and update ESRI.lib and Webstyles, do the following:

  1. Click File > Manage ESRI.lib... in the main menu.
  2. Select the packages you want.
  3. Click Update.

This downloads the packages and installs them directly in your current workspace. The Webstyle assets can be found in the ESRI.lib/assets/Webstyles subfolder .

Note:

When opening a workspace with a new version of CityEngine, ESRI.lib is automatically updated. However, you need to download the new version of the Webstyle packages using the dialog mentioned above.

Multiple workspaces

Unless you have a special setup, each workspace has a different copy of ESRI.lib. This means that you need to install the Webstyle packages for each of them.

Tip:

It is recommended to use matching versions of the ESRI.lib and the Webstyles. CityEngine usually maintains compatibility but if the versions don't match, the rules might produce unexpected results.

It isn't recommended to edit files inside ESRI.lib because updating will cause files to be overridden.
