Migration scenarios

Available with Business Analyst license.

Customers currently on Business Analyst Enterprise 10.7x or 10.8 and customers who are just getting started at 11.0 can skip this page. This topic describes how ArcGIS Business Analyst Server customers (pre-10.7) will migrate to the Business Analyst Enterprise solution and replace the legacy ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software with the new GeoEnrichment Server software.

Pre-10.7 customers using the legacy ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software will generally fall into one of the four migration scenarios below. For all the scenarios described below, it is encouraged to leverage access to additional server staging cores to test and evaluate the updated systems in a pre-production environment.

Existing ArcGIS Business Analyst Server customers using Business Analyst Web App on-premises

  1. Install, or upgrade, a 11.0 base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment
  2. Install, or upgrade, the Business Analyst 11.0 release version of Business Analyst Web App on the ArcGIS Enterprise portal machine.
  3. Uninstall original ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software and data, delete the DefaultMap service and demographic map services.
  4. Federate an additional 11.0 GIS Server to the ArcGIS Enterprise base deployment (if one does not already exist).
  5. Run the new GeoEnrichment Server setup on the federated server.
  6. Run the post-installation wizards to configure the GeoEnrichment Server environment and to install data to the server.
  7. Access the content and analytics of the updated GeoEnrichment service from the on-premises Business Analyst web app.

Existing ArcGIS Business Analyst Server customers using other apps supported by GeoEnrichment

This includes customers who are currently using other ready-to-use apps such as ArcGIS Business Analyst Pro, the portal map viewer and its Enrich Layer analysis tool, and any custom apps or integrations.

  7. Access the content and analytics of the updated GeoEnrichment service from supported applications and integrations.

Existing ArcGIS Business Analyst Server customers with geoprocessing services and widgets

Customers who have published geoprocessing services with Business Analyst geoprocessing tools from ArcMap have two options at 11.0.

  • Request a maintenance release of the ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software for 11.0 from Esri customer service. With this option, existing geoprocessing services published from Business Analyst 10.6x and prior can be maintained.
  • Upgrade to the new GeoEnrichment Server software and republish the geoprocessing services from ArcGIS Pro. Starting at 10.7.1 tools from the Business Analyst toolbox in ArcGIS Pro can be shared as web tools.

Existing customers with custom applications/integrations that consume legacy ArcGIS Business Analyst Server REST service endpoints

The original ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software supports several legacy service endpoints that existed before the newer GeoEnrichment service endpoints were introduced at the ArcGIS Business Analyst Server 10.5 release. For example, the ArcGIS Business Analyst Server Spatial Overlay service endpoint is functionally equivalent to the newer Enrich service endpoint under GeoEnrichment.

Applications and custom integrations that consume these legacy endpoints are not ready to migrate to 11.0 without updating them to consume the newer equivalent service endpoints. Current ArcGIS Business Analyst Server customers who fall into this category should request a maintenance release of the ArcGIS Business Analyst Server software at 11.0 while they plan for and work on their application and integration updates.
