Use Water Utility Service Interruptions

Manage water utility service interruptions

Whether a water service interruption is planned or unplanned, customers and stakeholders need to know what is happening with their service, when they can expect a return to normal, and confirmation that service has been restored. To do this water utilities need a comprehensive system that can rapidly create and share authoritative information that is easy for the public to access and understand.

Create new service interruption

In this workflow, you will assume the role of an operations manager who will create a new service interruption.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
  2. At the top of the site, click Groups.
  3. Browse to the Water Utility Service Interruptions group and locate the Water Utility Service Interruptions Manager app. Click View Application to launch the app.
  4. Use the search bar to find an address or pan and zoom on the map where you need to add the feature.
  5. On the side bar, in the Editor pane, click Service Interruptions to create a new feature.
  6. Draw the feature on the map.
    • Click the polygon's starting location on the map. To create the correct shape for the polygon, click the map locations where you want the polygon to change directions. Continue clicking locations to create the correct polygon shape. When you reach the starting point, double-click to close the polygon and complete the drawing.
  7. Update the necessary attributes in the sidebar. Specify the Interruption Type, start time, and estimated end time, as well as any other relevant details.
  8. Click Create to save and create the feature.

Update service interruption

Details about an interruption can change quickly and updating the information that is available to the public helps communicate the progress of the situation.

  1. Use the search bar to find an address or pan and zoom on the map where you need to add the feature.
  2. On the side bar, in the Editor pane, click Select to select an existing feature to update.
  3. Select the service interruption to view the details in the sidebar.
  4. Update the necessary attributes in the sidebar. Specify the Interruption Type, start time, and estimated end time, as well as any other relevant details.
  5. Click Update to save and update the feature.

Share items with the public

Each service interruption is only visible to users in the Water Utility Service Interruptions Manager group. In order to share the details publicly in the Water Utility Service Interruptions Viewer and ArcGIS Hub Site the share publicly attribute needs to be updated.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
  2. At the top of the site, click Groups.
  3. Browse to the Water Utility Service Interruptions group and locate the Water Utility Service Interruptions Manager app. Click View Application to launch the app.
  4. Use the search bar to find an address or pan and zoom on the map where you need to add the feature.
  5. On the side bar, in the Editor pane, click Select to select an existing feature to update.
  6. Select the service interruption to view the details in the sidebar.
  7. Switch on the Share Publicly toggle button.
  8. Click Update to save and update the feature's visibility to the public.

Investigate service a service interruption

  1. In a browser, go to the Water Utility Service Interruptions Site.
  2. Scroll down to view the Water Utility Service Interruptions Viewer.
  3. Use the search bar to find an address or pan and zoom on the map where you are interested.
  4. Click on an interruption to view the details in the side panel.
