Use Stormwater Construction Activity Management

The Stormwater Construction Activity Management solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you conduct routine construction site inspections, record observations of sediment and erosion control on site, understand the effectiveness of stormwater control measures, and provide actionable reports to stakeholders.

Assign inspectors sites

Use the Construction Site Editor app to create construction site polygons and assign the appropriate inspector.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater manager who assigns an inspector to an approved construction site.

  1. Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Construction Site Editor application.
  2. Click on the Approved template.
  3. Draw a polygon around the site area where stormwater inspections will occur.
  4. Fill in the project information.

    The project information entered here will appear on the inspection reports provided to the site manager.

  5. Click Save

Perform site inspections

Stormwater construction inspections are critical to ensure stormwater is being managed properly on active sites.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater inspector who has been assigned to conduct inspections on a construction site.

Note:

This workflow requires the latest versions of both ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 so verify that you have the latest version of both apps before starting the following workflow.

  1. Open ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on your mobile device.

    If changes are made to the inspection form, you will need to download the updates. You will be prompted to do so. Update the form prior to beginning site inspections.

  2. Tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map to open it.
  3. Tap on the construction site in which you are going to perform an inspection.
  4. Click on Conduct Stormwater Inspection at the top of the popup.
  5. Once ArcGIS Survey123 opens an inspection form will be displayed.
  6. Fill out the inspection form.

    While you are adding photos to your inspection make sure to choose whether or not the photo should be included in the report.

  7. Click on the check mark at the bottom of the last page to Submit the inspection.
  8. Click on Send now.
Note:

If the Send Inspection Report notebook was configured for automation, you will receive an email with a link to the report.

Capture site observations

Stormwater inspectors may want to record additional information about what they see on the construction site that is not included in the report provided to the contractor.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater inspector who has been assigned to conduct inspections on a construction site and you want to capture some additional observations on-site.

Note:

This workflow requires the latest versions of both ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 so verify that you have the latest version of both apps before starting the following workflow.

  1. Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map to open it.
  3. At the bottom right, tap on the Add Data button.
  4. Click on the appropriate template.
  5. Fill out the details and click Submit.

Send inspection report

Stormwater inspections results can be compiled and formatted to share with others inside and outside of your organization.

Note:

This workflow requires the configuration step of Schedule the email notification notebook to have been completed for these steps to be valid.

In this workflow you will assume the role of the stormwater inspector who has submitted an inspection. Now you would like to email a report of your findings to internal or external stakeholders.

  1. You will receive an email with a link to a report in PDF format.
  2. Click on the report link in the email and sign in to ArcGIS Online.
  3. Click Open.
  4. After the PDF opens on your mobile device, click Share, and choose Email as your method.
  5. Add recipient email addresses to the To: section and click Send.

Perform site follow-up inspections

Stormwater construction inspections may result in the necessity for a follow-up inspection.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater inspector who needs to conduct a follow-up inspection.

Note:

This workflow requires the latest versions of both ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 so verify that you have the latest version of both apps before starting the following workflow.

  1. Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map to open it.
  3. Tap on the construction site in which you are going to perform an inspection.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the popup to the Related section, where you see the Stormwater construction inspections related table. Tap to view the previous inspections conducted on this site. Find the inspection that you are performing a follow-up on and tap it.
    • Alternatively click on the arrow to the right of the Fields section title to collapse the fields and reduce scrolling.
  5. Click on Conduct Follow-up Inspection link at the top of the popup.
  6. Fill out the inspection form.
    • If this follow-up inspection has a "No" result for Follow-up needed, before submitting the inspection click on the Update main inspection link at the bottom of the form. Tap the original inspection, which will appear in the Inbox. Change the value to "No" for Follow-up needed, then clear the Follow-up date value. Submit the inspection. Go back to the Follow-up inspection and submit to complete the workflow.
    • If this follow-up inspection has a "Yes" result for Follow-up needed, continue to Step 7.
  7. Click on the check mark at the bottom of the last page to Submit the inspection.

Monitor site inspections

Stormwater managers and inspectors may want to view inspections, their results, and all the photos associated.

In this workflow you will assume the role of a stormwater manager who wants to review the inspections results of a site where stormwater control measure issues were observed by the inspector.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Inspections Detail Dashboard.
  2. In the top right, use the filters to search by project name, inspector name or date.
  3. On the left in the Inspection list click on the inspection that you would like to review.
  4. Click on the Inspection results and the associated photos will be shown in the windows.
  5. If there are multiple photos for a particular section, browse through then using the carousel at the top of each section.
  6. If you would like to view any follow-up information, click on the Follow-up inspections tab next to the Inspection results tab at the bottom off the Inspection list window.

Stormwater managers want to see an overview of the inspection results.

In this workflow you will assume the role of a stormwater manager who wants to see which control measures are defective the most often in their jurisdication.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Inspections Program Dashboard.
  2. The chart section of the dashboard has multiple tabs, if needed, scroll to the right. Click on the tab By control measure to view the number of times each control measure was observed with deficiencies or defects.

Review site observations

Viewing the results of your observations allows inspectors the ability to view observations on a map, add markups, and generate a map of the observations.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater inspector who wants to review the observations on a site to add markups and create a map.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Inspections Viewer application.
  2. Locate the site you are interested in.
  3. Click on observation points on the map to view details.
  4. On the left side bar click on the Draw tool.
  5. Use the different tools to add text labels or shapes to the map.
  6. Click on the Print icon.
  7. Change the map title and click Print to create a PDF map to share or keep for your records.
