Use Hospitalization and PPE Inventory

The Hospitalization and PPE Inventory solution supports a series of workflows that can be used to solicit daily hospitalization and personal protective equipment (PPE) reports and monitor the capacity of hospitals and PPE availability.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Monitor hospitalization and PPE capacity

The Hospitalization and PPE Inventory solution includes a Hospitalization and PPE Report survey that collects hospitalization and PPE information from hospitals and acute care centers. Organizations deploying Hospitalization and PPE Inventory should review the preconfigured questions and adjust as necessary to remain in compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws. In addition, ensure that you secure the survey and underlying layers and only share the content with appropriate members of your organization.

Complete the Hospitalization and PPE Report

You will start by assuming the role of an employee at a hospital. You are asked by local emergency response staff to use the Hospitalization and PPE Report to share hospitalization information and the status of your PPE inventory each morning.

  1. In a browser, go to your Hospitalization and PPE Report survey.
  2. In the survey, select your facility.
  3. Fill in the following details:
    • Total number of hospital beds by type and how many are occupied
    • Total number of ventilators available at your facility and how many are in use
    • Total number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths
  4. Enter how many days you have left for each piece of personal protective equipment:
    • Gowns
    • Gloves
    • Respirators
    • Face Shields
  5. Enter any remaining equipment or PPE needed.
  6. Click Submit.

Monitor hospitalization and PPE capacity

Now, you will assume the role of an incident commander in a local government. You are asked to monitor the capacity of local hospitals and their PPE. You are looking to see if hospitals in your community may be close to capacity or lacking the personal protective equipment required to protect health care workers. You will view the overall status of hospitals and then review specific locations.

  1. In a browser, go to the Hospitalization and PPE Dashboard.
  2. The Hospitalization and PPE Dashboard opens with an overview of the current status.

The overview displays key metrics. This information gives management a quick overview of the number of hospitals reporting, overall bed capacity, ventilators, and occupancy rates. Any COVID-19 hospitalizations are also shown.

  3. Review the list of hospitals and click an individual hospital in the list to see more detail.
  4. Click a filter in the top panel of the dashboard to refine the results in the dashboard.

You can filter by area or by hospital.

  5. Click the Personal Protective Equipment tab to review the status of equipment.
  6. Review the list of hospitals again and click an individual hospital in the list to see exactly how many days left of supply the hospital has.
