Use Communications Service Availability

The Communications Service Availability solution delivers a set of capabilities that help communication providers share service availability with prospective customers and use expressed interest to inform service improvements and expansions.

Manage service areas

Engineering and network planning staff must be able to accurately create and update existing and future service areas. Service providers can quickly share any service changes with the public, ensuring prospective and existing customers are informed with the latest information.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of an engineering and network planning team member who must create and share service area availability to current and prospective customers.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Service Availability Manager app.
  2. From the item page, click View.
  3. To enable snapping, complete the following steps:
    1. In the Editor pane, click Snapping, switch on the Enable Snapping toggle button.
    2. In the Snapping layers section of the Snapping Settings pop-up, click the Service Area feature layer.

      Tip:
      These must be set each time you perform geometry editing.

  4. In the Create features section of the Editor pane, click the Active service area.
  5. Draw the service area on the map.
  6. Type or choose values for each attribute. When you finish providing attribute values, click Create.

    Note:
    To share a service area to the Service Availability Public Lookup app, switch on the Share Publicly toggle button.

  7. To update an existing service area, complete the following steps:
    1. Click Select under Edit features in the Editor pane.
    2. Select a service area on the map to update and fill out the attributes.
    3. Click Update when you finish changing attribute values for this feature.
  8. Optionally, click the Filter button and filter by the Service Status value or Sharing Status value.

Discover available services

Communication providers can quickly inform potential customers which services are available in their location. Potential and existing customers can submit their interest if any services are currently unavailable in their area.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of potential customer who wants to understand the available service for your home or business from a local communication provider.

  1. In a browser, go to the communication provider's site and browse to the Service Availability map.
  2. Type an address in the search text box and press Enter. Alternatively, click a location on the map.

    The map updates to display the location and information about services available in that area are provided.

  3. Review the information displayed and click the here link to open a Service Interest Request form.

    The survey uses your browser location, or you can type in your address.

  4. Fill out the form and click Submit when finished.

Understand services availability

The business development team benefits from an internal resource that allows them to understand available services and customer interest. They have access to all current and planned service areas and service types, and they can submit interest request forms and review current customer service requests.

In this workflow, you will assume the role of a business development member answering a phone call or chat from a customer wanting to know which services are available to them and tracks customer interest requests to gain insight.

  1. In a browser, verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Service Availability Center web experience.
  2. From the item page, click View.

    The Locate Service page is opened by default.

  3. On the Location Service page, use the Service Availability Lookup app to search for a customer's location to inform the customer of what types of services they can receive.
  4. In the right pane, use the Service Interest Request form to fill out interest in receiving service for a customer.
  5. Click the View Interest button to monitor the Customer Interest Dashboard.
