Configure Homeless Outreach

In this topic you will learn how to configure the Homeless Outreach solution to meet specific needs in your organization by leveraging other solutions.

Reference Point in-Time Count Data

The Reduce Homelessness hub site can be used to give insight about homelessness within your community. One common dataset of interest is the Homeless Point in-Time data conducted by volunteers during annual surveys. This dataset is included in the Homeless Point-in-Time Counts solution.

Deploy Homeless Point-in-Time Counts Solution

To deploy the Homeless Point-in-Time Counts solution, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS Online Organization, click on the app switcher and select ArcGIS Solutions.
  2. Deploy the Homeless Point-in Time Solution.
  3. Browse to the Homeless Count public feature layer (hosted view) and share it with everyone.
  4. This is a layer view which only shows basic non identifiable survey results that can be shared with the public.

Reference Point in-Time Count data in Reduce Homelessness Hub site

  1. In your ArcGIS Online Organization, go to your content and find the Reduce Homelessness site and open the item details page.
  2. Click Configure App.
  3. Click the Edit button on the left.
  4. Under How are we doing? Click the gear box to edit the Sheltered Homeless indicator.
    Note:

    When you first deploy the solution, numbers are shown from sample data. The following steps describe how you can reference your own point in time count data.

  5. Click the pencil and browse to the Homeless Count_public dataset you deployed in from the Homeless Point in-Time count solution.
  6. Click Select.
  7. For Statistic Field, choose Sheltered. Ensure Count is listed under Statistic Type.
  8. Repeat the above steps for Un-Sheltered Homeless and Number of Children.
  9. Click Save.
  10. Under Save, click the drop-down menu and choose Publish Draft.

Deploy supporting apps

The Reduce Homelessness hub site is also a destination for people experiencing homelessness or at risk to become homeless. A Homeless Service Locator is part of the Homeless Outreach solution and is part of the Reduce Homelessness site. In addition, you may also want to configure Warming and Cooling Centers and Mortgage Counseling Locator to include in your Reduce Homelessness hub site.

Deploy Warming and Cooling Centers solution

To deploy the Warming and Cooling Centers solution, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS Online Organization, click on the app switcher and select ArcGIS Solutions.
  2. Deploy the Warming and Cooling Centers solution.
  3. In your content, browse to the Warming and Cooling Centers Locator Web Mapping app.
  4. Share this app with Reduce Homelessness group and Everyone.
Note:

If you do not have ArcGIS Hub Premium, you may not see the Reduce Homelessness Content Group. You can create your own group to share this app to and reference in future steps.

Follow the documentation to populate the solution with warming and cooling centers.

Deploy Mortgage Counseling solution

To deploy the Mortgage Counseling Locator solution, complete the following steps:

  1. Click on the app switcher and select ArcGIS Solutions.
  2. Deploy the Mortgage Counseling Locator solution.
  3. In your content, browse to the Mortgage Counseling Locator Web Mapping app.
  4. Share this app with Reduce Homelessness Content, Reduce Homelessness group and Everyone.

Follow the documentation to populate the solution with mortgage counseling locations.

Reference Supporting apps

To reference the Warming and Cooling Centers and the Mortgage Counseling Locator solutions in the Reduce Homelessness hub site, complete the following steps.

  1. In your ArcGIS Online Organization, go to your content and find the Reduce Homelessness site and open the item details page.
  2. Click Configure App.
  3. Click the Edit button on the left.
  4. Scroll down under Need Help?
  5. Click the gear button under for the Gallery.
  6. For Groups, click Select Groups.
  7. Browse to the Reduce HomelessnessContent Group. Click Select.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Under Save, click the drop-down and choose Publish Draft.

Configure directions

Homeless Outreach can be configured to provide directions to the nearest homeless service location.

Follow the steps below to connect to a routing service and configure the app to enable directions.

  1. If necessary, sign into your ArcGIS Online Organization.
  2. Browse to the web app item page and click Configure App.
  3. In the left hand panel, click Interactivity.
  4. Click the slider to enable Show directions.
  5. The Configuring App page has a Full Setup and Express Setup mode. If you are in the Full Setup mode, you will also need to click the Results section.
  6. Click Publish.
  7. Click Confirm.

    The Authorize premium content dialog box will appear indicating this functionality will consume credits.

  8. Click Authorize
  9. Click Launch and explore the capabilities of enabling directions.
