Use Pipeline Referencing Foundation

The Pipeline Referencing Foundation delivers a set of capabilities that help pipeline operators model their gas and hazardous liquid pipelines in ArcGIS and accelerate their ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing implementation.

To explore the data model provided in this solution, review the data dictionary for descriptions of the included features.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Get started with the solution

Use the instructions in the Pipeline Referencing Foundation task to get started with the solution.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the PipelineReferencingFoundationV1_3 item.
  2. Open the item page and click Download.
  3. Unzip and open the downloaded Pipeline Referencing Foundation ArcGIS Pro project.
  4. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane.
  5. In the Catalog pane, expand Tasks and double-click the task item.
  6. In the Tasks pane, click the Explore the Pipeline Referencing Solution task group to expand the collection of tasks.
    Tip:
Click each group task heading and task to view a description at the bottom of the Tasks pane.

Each task group includes instructional steps for using the solution. Begin by exploring the contents of the project, complete the workflows with sample data, and then begin configuring the solution for your organization.

Explore the Solution

The solution is designed for organizations that want the experience of a fully functional pipeline referencing solution. Explore the sample data in the provided single-user geodatabase to view how the Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM) and Linear Referencing Service (LRS) have been designed to manage pipeline systems. Task-based workflows are also provided to create and model your own system to behave like a pipeline system in an enterprise environment. The solution also provides preconfigured maps for sharing and editing data.

Note:

This solution requires a knowledge of pipeline referencing. To learn more about Pipeline Referencing, refer to Get started with Pipeline Referencing.

This task group includes the following tasks:

  • Overview
  • What's Included
  • Review the Data Model
  • Explore the Symbology and Data

These tasks introduce the solution and guide you through exploring the capabilities of the pipeline referencing solution.

Prototype in a Single User Environment

Creating a system that fits your organization's needs requires a solid understanding of your data as well as the provided data model. It is recommended that you start with a prototype of the data model loaded with your own data and to make adjustments where necessary to best fit your organization's needs. When you're ready, move on to setting up and implementing your solution in ArcGIS Enterprise.

This task group includes the following tasks:

  • Calculate Tolerances and Resolutions
  • Project and Remove Sample Data
  • Configure APR (Optional)
  • Loading Data (Optional)

Deploy Solution to an Enterprise Environment

These tasks are a guide to extend the solution to a multi-user environment. This includes creating services with linear referenced data using the UPDM and sharing the final maps and services with your organization.

This task group includes the following tasks:

  • Copy LRS to Enterprise
  • Post Process
  • Publish Services
  • Deploy Event Editor Web App
