Introduction to Beach Analysis

Beach Analysis can be used to create foundational beach geospatial intelligence that can be shared across a defense organization.

Modern force design and operational concepts are increasingly centered on littoral operations, expeditionary advanced base operations, and distributed naval expeditionary warfare. These concepts specifically depend upon detailed understanding of coasts, beaches, and nearshore bathymetry. This type of foundational littoral analysis is a critical intelligence function that supports amphibious operations, landing craft suitability assessments, obstacle identification, and operational planning.

Defense organizations need repeatable workflows that enable analysts to rapidly characterize beaches, document findings, and create foundational geospatial data. With this foundational data, organizations can gain greater understanding of the operational environment, assess locations for amphibious operations suitability, and proceed on to beach landing site analysis.
