The Road Closures solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you inventory road closures and related detours, communicate closures and detours with the public, and share authoritative closure information with consumer mapping applications.
In this topic, you will learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the following workflows.
Note:
Use your organization's data or configured apps to follow these workflows.Create road closures
You will assume the role of an employee in the public works department. You have received plans for streets that will need to be closed. You will draw the closures on the map, place the road blocks, and identify the detour routes.
- In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization, and then browse to the Road Closures app.
The Road Closures app opens with the Manage panel open on the right.
- On the map, use the search field or pan and zoom to the closure location.
- In the panel, click the Both Directions template.
- Click the map and begin to draw a line at an intersection; click to add a vertex and double-click to finish the closure line.
After you finish drawing the closure on the map, a Road Closures form appears on the right.
- Complete the form with as much information as possible.
Note:
If the road name is populated incorrectly, click Override Street Name and enter the correct name.
- Click Create.
- Click the Blocks template.
- On the map, click the intersection on one side of the closure.
- Complete the form with as much information as possible.
Note:
If the road name is populated incorrectly, click Override Street or Intersection Name and enter the correct name.
- Click Create.
- Click the Detours template.
- On the map, sketch the alternate route around the closure and double-click to finish drawing the line.
- Complete the form with as much information as possible.
- Click Create.
Update closure details
You will continue as an employee in the public works department. Dates for a road closure have been extended. You will update the end date of the closure and its associated road blocks and detour.
- In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization, and then browse to the Road Closures app.
The Road Closures app opens with the Manage panel open on the right.
- In the upper right of the app, click the Select button.
- On the map, click on the road closure.
- In the form, click Ends drop-down arrow and choose a new date.
- Click Update.
Closures that are no longer active, with an end date that is before today, will no longer show on the map. To view past closures, click on the Filter panel and adjust the map filters. The filters are helpful when you have reoccurring events; for example, past closures can be selected and updated with new dates.
