Use Mosquito Treatments

The Mosquito Treatments solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you plan adulticide spraying operations, solicit requests for spray notifications and exclusions, maintain spray exclusion areas, record larvicide treatments in the field, and share spray areas with internal and external stakeholders.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Note:
Use your organization's data or configured apps to follow these workflows.

Plan spray operations

First, you will assume the role of a mosquito control agency staff member responsible for managing adulticide operations. You will use the Mosquito Adulticide Planning app to plan adulticide spray operations, update the status of spray areas to indicate whether treatments were completed, and maintain exclusion areas in the community.

Updates to adulticide treatment areas will be immediately available to the public and viewable in the Mosquito Spray Areas app.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization, and then browse to the Mosquito Treatments solution.
  2. View the Mosquito Adulticide Planning app.

The Edit widget enables you to create new and update existing adulticide treatment or treatment exemption areas.

  3. To create an adulticide treatment area, click the Adulticide Treatment Areas template.
  4. Click the map to draw the adulticide treatment area and double-click to finish drawing the polygon.

After you finish drawing the area, the Planned Adulticide Areas form opens in the Edit widget.

  5. Complete the form with as much information as possible, and then click Save.

Existing adulticide treatment areas and treatment exemption areas can also be edited and deleted.

  6. On the map, select an existing planned adulticide area.

The area's Planned Adulticide Areas form opens in the Edit widget. Here, you can correct errors, update information, or modify the area's geometry.

  7. Make necessary updates to the form:
    1. Correct errors directly in the form.
    2. To edit the area's geometry, check the Edit Geometry check box, and then modify the area's vertices.
    3. After the spray occurs, add the Actual Spray Date parameter.
    4. Alternatively, to delete the area, click the Delete button.

Updating the planned adulticide area with an actual spray date changes the symbology to show the area as an actual adulticide area.

  8. Click Save.

You can also choose which layers are visible on the map.

  9. On the right, at the top of the panel, click the Layer List button to open the widget.
  10. To view the layer of recently treated areas, check the Actual Adulticide Area check box.

Locate mosquito spray areas

Now, you will assume the role of a resident in the community who is interested in learning about mosquito spraying near your home or business. You will use the Mosquito Spray Areas app to locate recent and planned adulticide spraying areas near your home.

  1. In a browser, from the Mosquito Treatments solution, view the Mosquito Spray Areas app.
  2. In the Find Spray Areas widget, search for an address; alternatively, click the location on the map.
  3. In the widget, review the Recent Spray Area details.

The app provides details on when the spray occurred or is planned to occur, along with the method and any comments from the agency.

Request spray notifications

After reviewing recent and planned adulticide spraying in the community, you have determined that you want to be notified of future spraying. You will use the Mosquito Spray Notifications app to submit your contact information to the mosquito control agency so you can be notified of future operations.

  1. In a browser, from the Mosquito Treatments solution, view the Mosquito Spray Notifications app.
  2. Complete the Mosquito Spray Notifications form with as much information as possible.

Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. The Request Date field is automatically populated with the current date.

  3. Click Submit.

Request a spray exclusion

You will now assume the role of a resident in the community with strong allergies to pesticides. You want to have your home excluded from adulticide spraying. You will use the Mosquito Spray Exclusion app to submit your exclusion request to the mosquito control agency. The agency will review your request and may follow up for more information, and if approved, it will include your exclusion into its adulticide operation planning for future spraying.

  1. In a browser, from the Mosquito Treatments solution, view the Mosquito Spray Exclusion app.
  2. Complete the Application for Pesticide Exclusion form with as much information as possible.

Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. The Request Date field is automatically populated with the current date.

  3. Sign the form and click Submit to complete the exclusion request.

Manage exclusion requests

As an operations manager, you will use the Mosquito Spray Exclusions Manager to manage adulticide and larvicide exclusion requests from the public. Approved exclusion requests will be immediately available to biologists and other staff planning adulticide operations.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization, and then browse to the Mosquito Treatments solution.
  2. View theMosquito Spray Exclusions Manager app.

All exclusion requests are listed at the top of the table. The table can be sorted and filtered in various ways.

A Submitted status indicates requests that have not yet been reviewed by staff.

  3. In the table, in the Status column, click the filter, and then for Status is, choose Submitted.
  4. Click an exclusion request.

The request details open at the lower left. After a request has been received, staff members review it for completeness, including forms, signatures, and justification.

  5. On the Application Info tab, click the Edit button Edit, and then for Status, choose Staff Review.
  6. Click an exclusion request to open its details.
  7. Click Edit, and then for Status, choose Approved.
  8. Click Save.

Approving the exclusion request removes the request from the Mosquito Spray Exclusions Manager app and promotes it to the Mosquito Adulticide Planning app, where you can use it to plan mosquito spray areas and known exemption areas.
