Display location information in a scene

Use the Location tool in Scene Viewer to display location information such as coordinates, elevation, addresses or places, and oriented imagery of any point in a scene.

Display location information

To use the Location tool to display location information, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Location tool .
2. Move the pointer in the scene to display coordinates and elevation:

   • The coordinates and format display under Coordinates.
   • The elevation displays under Elevation.

3. Click in the scene to capture the coordinates, elevation, and also the location address or place.

   When there is oriented imagery in the scene, it is also captured.

   The address and place information display under the Address or place section in the Location tool.

   You can click one of the copy buttons to copy the coordinates, elevation, or address.

   Note:

   By default, ArcGIS Online is configured to use the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service as a locator. If your organization added multiple locators and enabled them to allow reverse geocoding, click Show more results to view reverse geocode results for additional locators.

4. Click New location to get the new location information.

Adjust the settings

Use Settings to change the coordinates format or elevation unit.

• For Coordinates, click the Format drop-down menu to change the coordinates format to one of the following:
  • Longitude and Latitude (XY)
  • Decimal Degrees (DD)
  • Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS)
  • Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM)
  • Military Grid Reference System (MGRS)
  • Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM)
  • US National Grid (USNG)
  • BASEMAP—Display x,y coordinates in the coordinate system and units used by the current basemap.
  • Under Display, you can customize the appearance of the location information.
  • Under Preview, you can see a preview of the coordinate format.
• For Elevation, choose an elevation unit from the drop-down list such as meters or yards.

Display oriented imagery information

When there is oriented imagery in the scene, you can click a location near an oriented imagery footprint to display the nearest oriented imagery. An image displays in the Oriented imagery section in the Location tool, and the viewpoint is displayed in the scene. The title of the imagery is displayed next to Source.

When there are multiple oriented imagery layers in the scene, click the Images button to select the oriented imagery layer to use. For the imagery to appear in the Oriented imagery section, you must select the correct imagery that matches the point in the scene; otherwise, no imagery is displayed.

You can zoom in and out and rotate the imagery. Click New location to get imagery of a new location.

Note:

When there is no elevation layer available in the scene, the elevation mode is local with values approximately 0 meters for the ground. You need to add the default Terrain 3D or another elevation layer to get the real-world values.
