Export and share current view

To share your work as an informative map, poster, or image file, you can make a layout. In ArcGIS Earth, a layout is a composition of one map along with supporting elements such as a north arrow, a scale bar, a legend, descriptive text, and an image.

Export layout overview

Configure export layout

To configure export layout for the current scene, click Export on the toolbar. The Export panel Export is launched with the current scene view, title, north arrow, and scale bar added by default.

Scroll to zoom in or out to adjust the size of the page view. You can also adjust the page scale in the lower left corner of the panel through the scale drop-down list. Or you can click Fit to screen Fit to screen to fit the layout to the size of the panel.

Double-click the scene to activate the scene viewport and interact with the scene. In the activated mode, you can move and rotate the scene, and scroll to zoom in and out. Click outside the scene frame to exit the activated mode.

Configure general settings

To configure the general settings of the layout, complete the following steps:

  1. For Paper size, select a size from the General settings on the right side of the panel.

The default paper size is A4, which the default map template refers to. You can select Custom and specify the exact Width and Height values for the paper size in the list.

  2. For Orientation, select the paper orientation. Both Landscape and Portrait are supported.
  3. For Margins, select margins for the valid printable area. Anything outside the margin lines will not be exported.
    • Default—The default value is 5 millimeters.
    • None—The value is 0. If you're sending the page to the printer, this option does not remove the printer margins.
    • Custom—You can drag the margin line manually or type specified margins.
    • Scene Only—To create a printer-friendly document of only the current scene view, switch to the Scene Only option. By default, Scene Only is disabled and all the options of map surrounds are available.

Map surrounds

On the default layout, a north arrow, a legend, and a scale bar are added around the scene view. You can add descriptive text, an image, and dynamic text to the layout to enrich layout contents.

  • North arrow North arrow—Indicates the orientation of the scene on the layout. When the scene rotates, the north arrow element rotates with it. Click the button to change the north arrow style.
  • Legend Legend—Explains the meaning of the symbols used to represent features in the scene. The content of the legend is consistent with the content on the legend tab in the table of contents.
  • Scale bar Scale bar—Provides a visual indication of distance and feature size in the scene. The unit is same as the Distance units setting configured in Settings.
  • Text Text—Adds one or more descriptive text elements with the selected style.
  • Image Image—Adds one or more images from the local resources.
  • Dynamic text Dynamic text—Corresponding text on a layout that changes based on the current properties of the scene. Dynamic text content is read-only, but the style can be configured. The following types of dynamic text can be added:
    • Spatial reference of the scene
    • Camera
    • Scene center coordinates
    • Credits (attribution)
    • Map units
    • Scale
    • Current date
    • Current user
Tip:
All elements added to the layout can be selected, moved, and resized on the layout to achieve the look you want. To delete an element, select it and press Delete key.

You can share the layout by saving it as an image, sending it via email, or printing it as follows:

  • Choose Export image Export image to save the current viewport as an image.
  • Choose Email Email current view to send a screen capture of the current viewport as an email attachment.
  • Choose Print Print current view to print the current viewport.
