002731: The dimension feature class will be upgraded in place. Backup data and understand usage limitations before upgrading.

Description

The Upgrade Dataset tool upgrades the dimension dataset in place. It does not make a copy of your data before upgrading.

Once upgraded, your dimension dataset will no longer be available for use in previous versions. The following table describes how dimensions are supported:

ArcGIS versionArcGIS Desktop dimensionsArcGIS AllSource dimensions 2.xArcGIS AllSource dimensions 3.x
ArcGIS Desktop

Full read access. Partial modify and write access. It may be downgraded based on symbols and dimension properties used.

Full read, modify, and write access.

Consult the Companion ArcGIS AllSource and ArcGIS Enterprise versions section in the Release notes when using dimensions with ArcGIS Enterprise. The ArcGIS Enterprise version needs to match or be greater than the ArcGIS AllSource version for use in GIS services. For instance, ArcGIS AllSource 3.x dimensions require ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 or higher.

Solution

Ensure that you have a backup of your data before upgrading.

If you need to continue to use the dimension feature class in a previous version, make a copy, and only upgrade one version.
