Measure the location of a point in an image

You can get point and centroid locations from any georeferenced raster dataset, mosaic dataset, or image service. A digital elevation model (DEM) is required if you're making measurements in 3D.

Tip:

The units for these measurements can be changed in the Mensuration Results .

Get measurements at a point

The Point Location tool identifies the location of a point.

To get measurements at a point, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the layer in the Contents pane.
  2. Click the Imagery tab.
  3. In the Mensuration group, click the drop-down arrow to display all the tools, and choose the Point tool.
  4. Click a point in the image.

Find the centroid and its measurements

The Centroid tool calculates the centroid location of an area.

To find the centroid and its measurements, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the layer in the Contents pane.
  2. Click the Imagery tab.
  3. In the Mensuration group, click the drop-down arrow to display all the tools, and choose the Centroid tool.
  4. Draw a polygon by clicking points along the feature from which the centroid will be derived.
