Measure distance or area from an image

Distance or area can be measured from any georeferenced raster dataset, mosaic dataset, or image service. A digital elevation model (DEM) is required if you're making measurements in 3D.

Tip:

The units for these measurements can be changed in the Mensuration Results .

The Distance tool measures the distance between two or more points.

To measure distance, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the layer in the Contents pane.
  2. Click the Imagery tab.
  3. In the Mensuration group, click the drop-down arrow to display all the tools, and choose the Distance tool.
  4. Click two or more points along the feature you're measuring.
