Overview
The Label Bad Bands function allows you to specify a set of bands using ranges or lists to be labeled as bad. Bands labeled as bad are handled appropriately in a variety of functions, tools, charts, and other functionality. This function supports both multispectral and hyperspectral images and maintains the same band order as the input.
Bad bands refer to specific spectral bands in the image data that are often noisy, heavily affected by atmospheric interference, or provide limited information about the surface due to strong absorption by water vapor. These factors make these bad bands less reliable for analysis compared to other bands, and are typically located in the near-infrared region with strong water vapor absorption features.
Notes
The output layer will have the IsBadBand band property set to 1. The IsBadBand property will be created for the list of bands if it does not already exist.
The Combination parameter is used to specify the bad bands. The bad bands are entered as a space-delimited list and can be specified as ranges of bands, for example, when specifying a subset using the Band IDs option for the Selection Method parameter. A bad band in hyperspectral imagery refers to a band that is corrupted or is affected by noise and should be ignored in subsequent analysis. Normally, surface reflectance products have bad bands labeled in the data. When the Exclude Bad Bands parameter is checked, the bands that have been labeled as invalid will not be included in the output.
For theSelection Method parameter, a value of 20-50 60-100 200 will label bad band IDs between (inclusive) 20 and 50, 60 and 100, and a band with an ID of 200.
When specifying the Combination parameter value using the Band Wavelength option for the Selection Method parameter, all bands within the wavelength range will be labeled as bad bands.
When specifying bands by wavelength, the units—such as microns or nanometers—are the same as the input units.
