U.S. Privacy

California has led the way for United States (US) privacy regulations starting with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in 2020, which aligns heavily with many GDPR aspects from the EU. At the end of 2023, there were twelve states with laws for comprehensive approaches to governing the use of personal information. The good news is there are many similarities, however, what is considered private location in formation is defined differently between states and continues to evolve.

To help our customers align with evolving privacy regulations we have provided privacy best practice documents for geospatial solutions incorporating capabilities such as location sharing. To stay on top of these evolving challenges Esri is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) member and has privacy teams within both our corporate operations as well as embedded within our product and service teams.
