Configure Esri Maps for SharePoint

Esri Maps for SharePoint must be configured before it can be used for the first time. The configuration process generates an App ID for use with the Esri Maps Web Part, the Esri Maps Locate and Esri Maps Connect workflows, and the Esri Maps Location field. This App ID identifies your app to the platform based on OAuth 2.0. The App ID is also the foundation for distributing apps, accessing billable services, and getting usage reports. To learn more about authentication and OAuth 2.0, see ArcGIS for Developers. The App ID is created for you by Esri Maps for SharePoint.

Configuring Esri Maps for SharePoint requires the credentials of a single named user account from the organization. The credentials provided during the configuration process are used to charge credits consumed by the Locate and Connect Workflows, and by theEsri Maps Location field. The user account used for configuration requires the following:

  • Permissions within the organization to geocode. By default, users, publishers, and administrators have permissions to geocode, but a user may belong to a custom role where this permission was removed. See ArcGIS roles for more information.
  • Ownership of hosted services selected as a custom location type in the Esri Maps Locate workflow.
  • The ability to use organization credits as needed for geocoding. See Service credits overview for more information.

After entering these credentials, users are still prompted to provide their own credentials when using the Esri Maps Web Part. The credentials they enter on the web part persist for the current browser session; if the user closes the browser window and begins a new session, they must re-enter their credentials.

Set the Guest Access credentials (optional)

Sometimes you may want members of your organization to view the Esri Maps Web Part without needing to sign in to ArcGIS. To do so, you can set the Guest Access credentials. Keep in mind that this product is provided as an entitlement of your ArcGIS Online plan subscription or Portal for ArcGIS Named User License, and that all licensing requirements are in effect. Contact your local Esri representative for more information.

Guest users have limited access to the Esri Maps Web Part. In addition to viewing SharePoint content and shared ArcGIS content that has been added to the map, guest users can pan and zoom the map, turn layers on and off, and view pop-ups, but most functionality is restricted to viewing only. To fully interact with the map, users must sign in to ArcGIS using a named user account.

To configure Guest Access, do the following:

  1. Browse to the Site Settings page of the site.
  2. Under the Esri Maps for SharePoint Administration heading, click App Configuration.
  3. Under the Guest Access heading, click Enable.
  4. Click Set Credentials.
