  1. Edit mode
  2. Run mode

This is an archive related to a previous version of Esri Maps for SharePoint. If you need the current version go to http://doc.arcgis.com/en/maps-for-sharepoint/.

Edit mode and run mode

Like other web parts within SharePoint, the ArcGIS Map Web Part has an edit mode and a run mode. SharePoint users with permissions to edit the page containing the Map Web Part can put the Web Part in edit mode, while users with read-only permissions can only interact with the Web Part in run mode. Although users with contribute permissions in SharePoint can edit an existing web part, users must have design permissions to insert a web part onto a page. See User permissions and permission levels in SharePoint 2013 for more information on SharePoint permission levels.

Edit mode

To put the Map Web Part in edit mode, choose Edit Web Part from the menu in the upper right corner of the Web Part.

Edit Web Part menu

Edit mode allows you to make changes to the Web Part's configuration and save the changes as part of the Web Part. Configurable portions of the Web Part include the following:

  • Layers, including order and appearance
  • Basemap
  • Map extent
  • Map rotation
  • Appearance of pop-up windows
  • Fields included in the attribute table
  • Ribbon configuration

To save the Web Part's configuration, click OK or Apply in the properties pane to the right of the Web Part.

Run mode

Users with read access to the page hosting the Map Web Part can use the Web Part in run mode. In run mode, users can pan and zoom the map and interact with the layers the map contains. The ribbon controls that are available in run mode are determined by the controls included in edit mode. While all the ribbon controls are available in edit mode, only the controls included by the designer are available in run mode.
