Share a map

Sharing a map created in Excel to the ArcGIS platform is a quick and easy way to share information with others in your organization or the ArcGIS public community. You can share individual layers and the entire map. When you share a map, a web map is created on ArcGIS Online. You can continue working with the web map on ArcGIS or you can easily add the map to a PowerPoint slide.

  1. Click the Share Map button on the map ribbon.
  2. In the Share Map menu in the contents pane, specify a title, tags, and description for the map and choose whether to share it with Everyone (public), your organization, or any groups to which you belong.
  3. Click Share to publish the map. Note that publishing may take several minutes depending on the amount of data in your map. Once the map has published successfully, a message appears at the bottom of the map contents pane with a link to view the map.
  4. If you make changes to the shared map and want those changes to be available on ArcGIS Online (or Portal), click the Update Map button.
