To use ArcGIS Maps for Office, you must be signed in to an ArcGIS Online organizational account or a Portal for ArcGIS instance. Your organization's administrator grants organizational role and privileges to ArcGIS accounts. A role defines what you can do within the organization. For example, with a user role, you can add items, create web maps, and participate in groups. With a publisher role, you have privileges to publish hosted feature services; this is the required role for sharing layers and maps from ArcGIS Maps for Office to ArcGIS. Your organization's administrator can also create a custom role with specific privileges to use other features of ArcGIS Maps for Office. If you are unsure as to your role, contact your organization's administrator.
