Publishing

Learn more about best practices for publishing browse imagery.

How should I publish my browse imagery?

Find more information about publishing image services with ArcGIS Image Server.

Should I create a cache?

No. Many fields in the service need to be queried to display the best possible scene, and many different images are expected to be available in any geographic location. The image services supporting browse imagery must be dynamic, not cached services.

How can I optimize my workflow?

Calculate database indices on one or more of the most frequently used metadata fields.

  • The database index should be recalculated at least once a week, or after each set of new updates is added into the system.
  • If additional fields are added, compact the database.

How should I maintain my browse imagery?

When a new data collection is added into the system, the following it recommended:

  • Create a new source mosaic dataset as defined in the above sections.
  • Complete appropriate quality control procedures
  • Add the new source mosaic dataset into an existing derived mosaic dataset using the TABLE raster type.

OR

  • If automated processing scripts have been implemented, add process commands for the new source mosaic dataset into the automated build process, and rebuild the entire derived mosaic dataset.
Note:

If a new data collection is added into the system that is outside the current boundary of any existing datasets, run the Build Boundary tool.
