The World Places Locator enables you to geocode various types of places around the world. It references a geodatabase of more than 30 million places around the world that includes countries, states and provinces, administrative areas (for example, counties), cities, landmarks, water bodies, and more. If a more precise level of geocoding is required, you may be interested in the StreetMap Premium for ArcGIS products, which offer address-level locators and network data for routing and network analyses for many countries of the world.
If you're interested in global geocoding at the best precision possible, the Esri World Geocoder for ArcGIS is available to license at additional cost. It is not part of the Data Appliance for ArcGIS product offering. Contact your sales representative for more information.
The World Places Locator is shipped with Data Appliance 6.4 for ArcGIS on Collection B containing data and service documents. Help for publishing the World Places Locator is in data_appliance_64_for_arcgis_world_places_locator.pdf on the Data Appliance 6.4 for ArcGIS Help Documentation DVD. You can also view World Places Locator Help (PDF) online. This version of World Places Locator works with ArcGIS 10.4.1 or later. It does not work with earlier versions of ArcGIS.
