World Dark Gray Base and World Dark Gray Reference

Data Appliance 6.2 for ArcGIS includes two new maps:

The World Dark Gray Base map shows populated places, water, roads, urban areas, parks, building footprints, and administrative boundaries.

The World Dark Gray Reference layer shows populated place labels. This map is designed for use with World Dark Gray Base.

These maps draw attention to your thematic content by providing a neutral background with minimal colors, labels, and features. Only key information is represented to provide geographic context, allowing your data to come to the foreground. This dark gray map supports bright colors, creating a visually compelling map graphic which helps your reader see the patterns intended.

World Imagery

The World Imagery map was updated with more recent and more detailed imagery at large scales (~1:36k to ~1:1k). Globally, over 280 urban areas are updated with Pleiades imagery as well as other areas updated with SPOT Imagery. In the United States, NAIP 2013 and 2014 imagery was added for 47 states (~1:36k to ~1:4k). All the updated imagery at these larger scales provides significant improvements with image quality (for example, less cloud cover and more color) and currency in many areas around the world.

In addition, imagery from over 40 new community contributions is included. For a complete list of all contributors, see the list of World Imagery Map Contributors (PDF). Detailed information is available in the World Imagery service description and in the associated metadata layer provided with your source documents.
