Apply a filter to a layer in a scene

You can use numeric or text attributes in layers to filter features in scenes. For example, if you have a layer with buildings of New York City with the year built for each feature, you can visualize only buildings built between 1910 and 1930. By applying filters in a scene in Layer properties, you can stress the important features in a scene and filter out unnecessary data. You can filter feature layers, and 3D object, point, and point cloud scene layers.

Apply a layer filter

To apply a layer filter, complete the following steps:

1. Under Filter, click the drop-down menu and choose an attribute.
2. Optionally, choose a different attribute to apply a different filter.
   • Based on whether you choose a numeric or text attribute, either a range of values or list of values is provided to filter by.
   • When you choose a numeric attribute, you can switch between filtering by a list of values or range of values.
   • You can apply only one filter at a time to a layer.

Filter by a list of values

When you choose a text attribute, a list of all the values you can apply the filter to is provided.

To filter by a list of values, complete the following steps:

1. Check the attribute values in the list you want to add to the filter using the following options:
   • Click <all> to either check or uncheck all check boxes.
   • Check the <all other values> check box to choose values that are not listed.

   The number of features for each attribute value is displayed next to the value.

2. Optionally, check the Show features without <attribute> values check box to show features that don't have values for the chosen attribute.

Filter by a range of values

When you choose a numeric attribute, a value slider is provided to set the range of filtering.

To filter by a range of values, complete the following steps:

1. Adjust the sliders to set the range of values in the filter:
   • You can manually set the high and low values of the slider handles in the value boxes to fine-tune the filtering in a scene.
   • Set the minimum and maximum values of the attribute filter.
     • The minimum and maximum values determine the highest and lowest bounds of the slider.
     • Adjusting the minimum and maximum values allows you to narrow or widen the range of filtering values.
2. Optionally, check the Show features without <attribute> values check box to show features that don't have values for the chosen attribute.
3. Optionally, click Switch to list to switch to filtering by a list of values.
4. Optionally, click Switch to slider to filter by a continuous range of values.
