Pin a connection to Start

If there is a connection that you often open, and you want to be able to open the app to a Map Hub focused on that connection, pin the connection to Start. The connection appears as a tile on the Start screen of your app, and tapping that tile opens a Map Hub for the connection.

When you pin a connection to Start, it is a window into the app. Unlike maps pinned to the Start screen, it shares settings with the main app. For example, if you sign out of your account in the pinned connection, you are also signed out of that connection's account in the main app.

To pin a connection to Start, take the following steps:

  1. Open the main app and go to the Map Hub.
  2. Swipe to the settings panel.
  3. Tap connection.

    The connection page displays.

  4. If you have not already added a connection to the online geographic information system (GIS) you'd like to pin to the Start screen, add that connection. For more information, see Add a connection to an online GIS.
  5. Tap and hold the connection you want to pin to Start.

The context menu for managing connections appears.

  6. Tap pin to start.

The connection is pinned to Start as a tile, and the Start screen displays, scrolled to the location of the connection's tile. As part of the Windows Phone design, tiles flip occasionally, displaying content on both sides. For the connection tiles, the connection's thumbnail is shown on the front of the tile. The back of the tile displays the name of the connection and uses the phone's accent color as the background.
